Melijoe Trunk Show

by Kari Nyack

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Melijoe Trunk show at a very lovely little restaurant called Bumpkin in South Kensington.

Melijoe is an online global destination for all the top designer kids fashion brands. Founder, Nathalie Genty was tired of the lack of stylish clothing for boys after her first son was born in 2003, her frustration led to a business idea and four years later in 2007 Melijoe.com was launched.

Here are a few snapshots of my favourite pieces

Double Press day!!!

by Kari Nyack

Last week I had the pleasure of being invited to view the new Joolz pram collection soon to be launching in Mothercare by the end of this year.

Usually I do not tend to write about baby products and focus on more the fashion side of things as it relates closer to my services, but I was intrigued by this brand and their eco friendly ethos.

Joolz is a fairly new company, Creative Director Emile Kuenen, came up with the idea in 2005 whilst cruising the canals of Amsterdam with his friends. The Joolz Day was the first concept created. Today the Joolz Day is available in more than 20 countries worldwide.

1blog

Joolz strongly believe the world needs to move towards a healthy and sustainable way of living. Within their positive design philosophy, they look for innovative solutions that contribute to this transition. They believe it all starts with creating high quality products that are long-lasting and durable, ensuring that you will only ever have to buy one pushchair. The packaging has also been carefully taken into consideration with a positive approach to re-usable, sustainable ideas to contribute to the reduction of carbon footprints. Every box from the available range can be recycled into practical and quirky products – a lampshade, a bird house, a picture frame or even a chair. Passing down a positive environmental influence to the next generation!

3blog

The Joolz Day is designed with the consideration of human ergonomic factors, aiding parents in maintaining a correct posture and giving maximum support to the child.

8blog

The Joolz Day Earth collection is inspired by nature, with colours such as Parrot blue, Turtle green, Elephant grey and Monkey maroon. Each Joolz Day Earth has a stylish brown leatherette handlebar and safety bar, black wheels and a silver chassis.

After my well needed Cappuccino caffeine fix, I head onward to Soho House to view the SS14 collections represented by Fuse Communications. I just had to take a quick snapshot of the xmas decorations in Oxford Street on this lovely sunny day – a rare occurence!

With so much to see, I have narrowed down a few snapshots of each brand.

Mischka Aoki is one of my favourite childrenswear brands, with their unique show stopper pieces. Like no other brand I have ever seen, it is no surprise their collection has launched in Selfridges and Harrods for the AW13 season.

MAFusecomms

Another one of my favourite childrenswear brands is Pale Cloud. Pictured below is the ultra limited edition Swarovski dress. The 100% pale pink chiffon dress features 29 Swarovski Elements crystals and is available in very limited numbers, 10 pieces in each size to be exact! The dress will be available at Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge for the SS14 season.

New to Fuse Communications is all-natural, ethically produced toy brand Maya Organic. They are made using  traditional Indian handicraft techniques in a town called Channapatna in India. The products are coated with a natural and non-toxic resin called ‘lac’, which gives a high shine finish and acts as a protective coating making it both durable and safe.

Mayafusecomms

Another new brand due to launch this November is Oyu Moyu – a story filled new approach to luxury childrenswear. Oyu Moyu clothing is grouped into ‘stories’ rather seasonal collections. Every piece comes with an accompanying illustrated story from the world of Oyu Moyu, which has derived from the relationship between designer Oyuna Tserendorj and her 3 year old son. Oyu is an inquisitive little girl from a nomadic tribe, and her trusted companion Moyu is her Mongolian goat. The collection is made from one of the world’s most highly regarded luxury cashmere brands.

Bubble London AW13

by Kari Nyack

It’s that time of year again! Tradeshows all over the world are showcasing what children’s fashion has to offer for AW13/14. Off I ventured (again) to our very own Bubble London.

To be honest I found the show quite limiting with regards to my personal taste and some brands were being precious about taking photographs for understandable reasons. So you will see that most of my finds are from the same brands I featured in my SS13 round up with the exception of a few newbies.

Stuff your doodles with Lucy Moose! First time exhibiting at Bubble, Lucy Moose has received Theo Paphitis’s #SBS (Small Business Sunday) and Jacqueline Gold’s #WOWwinner (Women in Business) awards for her unique business concept.

One of my favourite brands, Tutu Du Monde presents , once again an outstanding collection of beautiful vintage looking pieces. This season is inspired by old, gothic haunted mansions creating a captured- in- time feel. New to the collection are feathered capes, playsuits and gorgeous ballet style slippers. We also see bolder colours alongside their pastel shades.

Left-Tutu Du Monde dress in royal blue. Right- Crystal Bow detailed ballet style slippers.

I spy a bit of leopard print! Anyone that knows me or may have read in previous posts, that I have a little bit of an obsession with leopard print, it just always seems to creep in! Over at the More Stories stand this fabulous piece of clothing was calling out to me, in it’s vibrant shade of green this rain mac is fit for a boy or girl.

Funky vibrant bold raindrops are falling at the Indikidual stand. Syreeta always pulls it off with her simple but effective homemade touches, this stand was definitely one of my favourites AGAIN.

New for this season is a domino print in monochrome colourways.

The banana print is repeated from last seasons collection (soon to hit the stores for SS13), but this time we see it in outerwear.

Also new this season is organic denim modelled in this fur collared jacket. This new zig zag print yellow jersey pant is my favourite piece from the collection, jogging my childhood memories of Charlie Brown from the Peanuts cartoons.

No Added Sugar always produce stunning outerwear, pictured left is this beautiful girls cape. Pictured right, we see custom argyle style No Added Sugar print blankets and matching cardigans.

New this season, we see this boys casual sports jacket and plaid printed pieces in addition to their signature stripes.

Over at Rock N Regal, Melanie Salisbury does it again with her classic, timeless designs. This girls coat is a must have!

Newcomer, Gravel and Grass, describe themselves as simple luxury for girls aged 2 -10 years.

Corby Tindersticks were back showing off their second season collection ‘hola amigo’. Inspired by Spanish lessons, exercise books, plimsoles and the periodic table influencing the colour palette and illustrations. The age range is now bigger, catreing for 0-5 years, and introducing babywear and accessories. I love the new bigger weather map!

New characters make an appearance!

Show stopper special occassionwear by Mischka Aoki. New this season are more casual pieces with less tulle, and a lot of black which I just love on kids.

Also new this season, which are my favourite, the 2 piece collections – cropped tops with tulle tutu skirts.

Another newbie to Bubble, Melissa shoes. Rubber jelly style shoes and sandals, featuring colaborations with Anglomania and Vivienne Westwood.

New to the collection are these sneaker style rubber shoes, suitable for boys too.

Another new comer, Swedish brand Leopold and Livia. Feminine classic designs, displayed beautifully on pearl beaded hangers.

Roll up, roll up!! It’s Jessie and James with their Butterfly Circus. I love the circus campaign for this collection, showing off punk checks, tartan and gingham mixes on their abstract cuts and baggy trousers.

Bold prints and colours at the Beau Loves stand. This season is inspired by a set of wings that Beau asked his mum Faye (designer) for his 4th birthday. I love the superhero style outfit pictured, the cat balaclava is so funky!

This season sees the launch of their new bedding range, with a plan to grow with each season collection.

Another new comer, Belle Enfant, a luxury fashion brand for style conscious infants. A beautiful collection mainly for girls, pictured are adorable cashmere accessories and silk blouses.

This season Bonnie Baby collaborates with Garbo & Friends, combining the Bonnie Baby handwriting through the use of jersey and knit with the Garbo & Friends ‘bubbles’ print.

Lots of lovely pieces by Rachel Riley, but my favourites were the dolls, teddies and their accessories.

For SS13 we saw slippers and toy animals, but this season Sew Heart Felt have produced fabulous hand made felt rugs and head shields as well as new animal characters, including a warthog, badger, chicken and a mole.

The Peacock slipper has been specially designed to be sold at the V&A Museum.

So there you have it, my Bubble London AW13 round up! Hope you have enjoyed!

Let me know your thoughts with a tweet or comment on Facebook.

No Added Sugar to open debut store!!!!

by Kari Nyack

British childrenswear brand No Added Sugar was founded in 2001 by Deborah Meadhurst with the aim of designing high quality fashionable clothing with an urban edge for children. 11 successful years on, the brand is delighted to open their first store in the heart of London’s Notting Hill, this September.

No Added Sugar has appointed architects, Powell Tuck to create a space that stretches and surprises the eye; true to the practise’s ethos of not giving away too much at first glance. The shop will feature art installations and exhibitions from emerging British young creatives, thus creating an inspirational and changing backdrop to the contemporary collections. Located in the thriving area of Ledbury Road, the 1000sq ft groundfloor space is set to become a destination store to the area.

So what treats will be awaiting us at the grand opening?

In the year of celebrating all things British, the AW12 collection is inspired by British dandy style. No Added Sugar’s urban boys and girls aspire to be country aristocrats who play at equestrian and outdoor country pursuits. The collection presents a confident and contemporary take on a classic look but with all the hallmarks of No Added Sugar’s wit and playfulness.

For girls, modern party dresses, flippy skater skirts worn with metallic leggings.

Riding jackets in metallic or woven vertical stripes are central to the collection.

Lozenge yellow and big smoke knit in No Added Sugar’s signature woven pirate stripes.

Midnight blue tones partnered with electric coral vertically striped playsuit.

Sangria with raspberry and deep purple with lavender colour palette.

The new store opens this September 2012 at 57 Ledbury Road, London, W11 2AA. In the meantime you can shop the collection at noaddedsugar.com

Nixie SS13 Preview 25th June 2012

by Kari Nyack

On Monday I ventured East (London) to Hackney, I had the privilege of being invited to view the new Nixie clothing SS13 collection, Nixie Stardust. Warmly welcomed by Nicole (designer) and Rose (Brand Manager), champagne and chocolate peanut butter goodies were on flow.

The Chatsworth Road store has a vintage and retro feel which compliments the identity of the brand, priding themselves with the use of sustainable fabrics in all of their collections.

40 years on from the release of David Bowie’s seminal concept album, ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’, the  SS13 collection takes it inspiration from the dazzling energy and tongue and cheek charm of the glam rock scene. This is Nixie’s first organic cotton jersey collection. Easy wear and easy care, this space odyssey of eight stardust soft pieces is a constellation of form and colour and is available for girls aged 4 to 12.

‘Nixie Stardust’ available in a choice of 2 colour ways- space suit grey, nova pink and celestial turquoise, or muted pink, baby pink and caterpillar green.

My favourite piece from the collection are these trousers in space suit grey.

Some pieces from the current collection, I love the feather/tweed headband.

Some more pieces from the current collections, made from vintage cottons and silks. All items are unique one of a kind pieces, being featured in some of the industry’s top magazines such as Junior, Milk, Babiekins and Papier Mache proves how special the brand really is. Current collections can be purchased from Nixie Boutique, Harvey Nichols, Monsters and Munchkins, majorielane.com and Semilina.

Music from the extremely talented ‘Black Casino and the Ghost’ drew the evening to a close (for me anyway, this lot probably partied on!)

The very lovely Rose and Nicole.
